Pros

The compensation and bonus structure were decent. The type of technology created by this company was impressive. There was a good amount of opportunity for training when they introduced LinkedIn Learning. They also paid for me to maintain my certifications (until right before the layoff).

Cons

I joined Lumentum after their last layoff. Four months after I joined, they had another round of layoffs. I was hit with the latest round of layoffs. Any time you hear "cost cutting", you should know that it will always result in a WFR (workforce reduction) or RIF (reduction in force). I should have done my homework prior to joining this company. Nevertheless, they don't really have a vision for the future, unless you count acquisitions. Most individual contributors are decent people, but the management and executive team treat their direct reports as burdens. Overall, this is not a healthy workplace.

The Worst Place I Have Ever Worked

Pros

Pay and benefits are quite good

Cons

Management don't care about you. I was made redundant while recovering from a personal bereavement. It was completely out of the blue and i was told over the phone. Heartbroken doesn't even begin to cover how i felt. It's not a place to work if you have a chronic illness or disability as they make no allowance for you unless you kick up a fuss and even then, it's only the bare minimum and they act like they're doing you a huge favour. It's a very tense atmosphere, you can tell staff are very unhappy. Management ask for people to suggest changes, but they don't ever take it on board. They make meaningless changes that benefit them and then act like staff are ungrateful when the changes only benefit a select few. Some people in the company think they are God's gift to everyone and it makes it a truly uncomfortable place to work. I used to love working here, but i can now see that being made redundant was the best thing that happened to me.
