Pros

Everyone in my department (Procurement) was extremely friendly, helping, and welcoming. My managers constantly went out of their way to help me succeed, whether that was taking time out of their schedule to meet with me 1 on 1, or staying late in the office with me to help me meet a deadline. They clearly care about you and want you to succeed.

Cons

Some departments don't get along. For example, the Procurement department and the Supply Chain department have palpable tension between them. Even though they are in the same building and only a few floors apart, I was shocked by my experience. I was discouraged by my coworkers from networking with people in Supply Chain, and I when I had to work with people from Supply Chain, I was specifically told by my coworkers in Procurement to not offer any help or advice, so that my results surpassed theirs. This would constantly nag at my conscience and it made work very unenjoyable.

Horrible IT Management

Pros

As a consultant, you always face good clients & bad clients. The former was the case with LYB. The supply chain business was very supportive and reactive. They understand the situation and act accordingly.

Cons

The IT management which came sometime around later half of 2015 created complete imbalance between IT & Business. There were some managers who had no idea of what they're talking about. That confirmed my belief that "it's not what you know, but it's all about who you know" at LYB. The senior managers brought in their ex-colleagues as managers and in turn they brought their team leads. This hindered the opportunity of hard working employees who were in line to either get promoted or assume a lead type role. These managers and lead had no ethics. They would call at off hours and ask silly questions because they wanted to save their rear. Wouldn't have decency of saying hi or hello while calling during those off hours. They would bring on consultants who had no clue of what they're doing and had us support them by holding their hands at each and every step. That was the expectation of the management. If you raise your voice, you right away become top target to either get low rating or fear of getting laid off. In terms of innovation, there is no such thing called innovation. You work on very tight deadlines with remarkably less SLA. Moreover, you can't think out of the box as there is no provision to do so. In this day and age of new technological advancement, only handful of managers control what gets in, who work on what and who trains the "experienced consultants".
