Pros

Good benefits, 401K and work environment. Room for some advancement if you're a motivated employee. Not as bad to drive to compared to plants in Pasadena area.

Cons

Small unit without many options of advancement. Dependent on old BP unit for utilities and some feeds. Not much support in house for management or engineering.

Pros

Generally a friendly environment, flexible work hours during non-close weeks. Ability to learn a lot about the chemical business as training is improving.

Cons

Difficult to move from department to department within the organization. Sometimes its hard to get cross functional business support, the business seems segmented and has some processes which are significantly dated. Needs better IT service and systems in place.

Pros

Decent compensation. High level of responsibility for all positions (looks good on a resume). Easy to look like a superstar, usually because the current process is outdated or backwards. Moderately high turnover means there's usually open positions for lateral movement. New CEO is trying to make things better for employees.

Cons

Culture is abysmal, and this will take a long time to change. The quality of middle management (the person who will probably be your boss) is sporadic at best. Lots of managers end up leading groups because they were good individual contributors, but they actually don't know the first thing about leading teams. I've worked for good, mediocre and absolutely horrible managers - and the horrible ones seem to do just fine at LYB because they have figured out how to blame their incompetence on the people working for them. Bureaucracy and politics (especially between departments) makes this a frustrating place to work. Very little cooperation. Lean structure plus moderately high turnover means that everyone is usually working at least two jobs. Flat structure means your boss won't have much time to spend with you. This leads to management pretty much only interacting when mistakes are made - IE you should never expect someone to thank you for doing a good job.
