Pros

- LYB has allowed employees to roll over some vacation days at year end which is great since employees find it difficult to use it. - The bonus for 2021 was relatively high at 10% of salary (depending) - 2 work from home days allowed per week. - Supply Chain actively recruits from Universities which gives early career professionals an opportunity. - Some smart and high caliber colleagues to collaborate with if you can find time on their calendars. - Some empathetic and compassionate middle managers. - Recently renovated LYB tower patio and lobby is nice.

Cons

Company is proud to have a “lean” workforce (A.K.A. understaffed). The reality of that is: • Employees at LYB have massive work loads. This equates to stressed out, over-worked, and overbooked coworkers and bosses just trying to survive each day. This cascades into a myriad of other issues.: resources are frequently unavailable, projects span across years to complete, people are irritable and there is a lot of back-stabbing and finger pointing. Not to mention you will either work long hours or leave a lot of work incomplete. • Expect a daily average of 6 hours of Teams meetings. Hope you don't mind lunch-meetings, wearing a headset until your ears are sore and rushing to take care of basic human needs like using the bathroom and eating. • Turnover is high causing mass disorganization and no business continuity within roles so everyone is constantly picking up the pieces. Entry level roles are allowed to rotate which causes continuous disruption in the supply chain group. • LYB Tower is mostly an antiquated physical environment with the most basic computer, software and equipment. There are almost no accommodations made for employees beyond the most basic necessities. The justification required to get a standing desk or dual computer monitors is incomprehensibly difficult. It's a very cheapskate-y, miserly place to work. LYB does not invest in it's employees. There is no budget for you to pursue "that certificate" which would benefit your role and contribution to the company. I saw nothing offered to help employees progress professionally except for career webinars where you can learn about your colleagues jobs and backgrounds. I can only assume LYB doesn't really care if the best and brightest work there. Instead they seem more interested in having warm bodies in seats from "9 to 5". - Performance reviews are designed to make you feel unworthy and undeserving. Achieving even a “meets expectation” in performance review requires extensive justification. Performance reviews are designed to make employees feel inadequate when workload inevitably proves to be unsustainable. The directive seems to be how to keep workforce costs as low as possible. Other managers are allowed to weigh in on how worthy you are for pay increase. - Promotions, raises and bonuses are regarded as privileges, not deserved or earned. High performers are not rewarded, instead rank and pay is tied to tenure and favoritism. Pay raise policies are written to encourage managers to marginalize employee pay and remind them "what a great company LYB is". - Culture is oppressive. Work from Home policy is revocable and there are multiple rules around what employees can and can't do, when they can and can't use it, etc. Leadership clearly missed the entire point that WFH is about allowing employees autonomy and exercising trust. It is evident that leadership is really grappling with the fact that they can't compete with the benefits offered by more progressive companies without loosening their tight grip and short leash. Instead they double down on indoctrinating screen savers and internal marketing. -LYB Tower is located in disgusting downtown Houston. Homeless people are everywhere and you will be harassed by them at some point. In Summary: This company culture is failing on so many levels but leadership is either too slow or too stubborn to change. Instead they fixate on tactics to control and monitor employee activity like a cult. LYB has deeply rooted, flawed logic in thinking it has leverage over it's employees. This is in glaring contrast to the actual turnover happening right now. LYB does nothing to retain employees. They don't pay particularly well, offer exceptional benefits or development opportunities. You could easily waste years of a career spinning your wheels here like I observed from so many of my well-intentioned and high performing colleagues.

Horrible IT Management

Pros

As a consultant, you always face good clients & bad clients. The former was the case with LYB. The supply chain business was very supportive and reactive. They understand the situation and act accordingly.

Cons

The IT management which came sometime around later half of 2015 created complete imbalance between IT & Business. There were some managers who had no idea of what they're talking about. That confirmed my belief that "it's not what you know, but it's all about who you know" at LYB. The senior managers brought in their ex-colleagues as managers and in turn they brought their team leads. This hindered the opportunity of hard working employees who were in line to either get promoted or assume a lead type role. These managers and lead had no ethics. They would call at off hours and ask silly questions because they wanted to save their rear. Wouldn't have decency of saying hi or hello while calling during those off hours. They would bring on consultants who had no clue of what they're doing and had us support them by holding their hands at each and every step. That was the expectation of the management. If you raise your voice, you right away become top target to either get low rating or fear of getting laid off. In terms of innovation, there is no such thing called innovation. You work on very tight deadlines with remarkably less SLA. Moreover, you can't think out of the box as there is no provision to do so. In this day and age of new technological advancement, only handful of managers control what gets in, who work on what and who trains the "experienced consultants".

A Pit Of Vipers Who Eat Their Young

Pros

At one point LYB was a great place to work but it now has the reputation as a "sweat shop" since Sr. Management changed the direction of the company. They Preach that they care about their employees and that there is an "open door policy" but that is a huge lie...The only "open door" is the one they walk you out of when you leave.

Cons

You must keep your mouth shut at all times...Not doing so will result in retaliation. Talented employees are being replaced with cheap contractors with no knowledge. Outsourcing is the direction and future of the company
