Pros

Good money, good benefits! Hardest working workers I have ever seen (due to the fear of losing their jobs)

Cons

Work you like a slave because you are salaried! You never get caught up on your work. If you are African American I would pick any other company to work for. Unless you get in Houston on the 4th floor you are doomed for failure. The company is very political, managers have favorites, and if you aren't an Aggie (Texas A & M graduate) beware! The Aggies pull for each other, it's like a cult! They help each other move up the ladder!!!! Sorry to say, if their aren't any more African-Americans to harass, if you are a minority you are the next in line. Laugh it you must, but this is serious business! Let's not forget, the company in India is doing most of the transactional work, so your job may not last long.

Great Company

Pros

Lyondell is a great company to work for. The company has large projects and expansions going on everywhere, which is very exciting. You have unlimited opportunities and the compensation package is excellent. The 9/80 schedule for people working in the plants is a huge benefit as well. Yes, the hours are long, and management has it's flaws, but that is true of most places in this industry. Personally I have had fantastic managers in my time with the company, and I've always felt like the compensation package more than covers the work hours. There is a lot of responsibility at Lyondell, so if you are considering a job here, keep that in mind. I enjoy the level of responsibility, however, and have found that there is never a dull moment working in the plants!

Cons

The rotation program for developing engineers is terrible, and in many cases it drives your career in the polar opposite direction of where you'd like it to go instead of helping to shape it. Also, they need to bring the 9/80 schedule to the downtown corporate office in Houston. Losing that benefit when moving from the plant into a corporate role is a huge downside!

Pros

Decent pay and benefits if you are working 45 hours a week. (The working hours are more like 55 hours a week. ) The physical office surrounds are very nice.

Cons

The leadership has one approach under the past CEO. Expect to work long hours and every changing business initiatives. This is also a lot of employee turnover and a survivor mentality. Senior management is not recognizing the importance of team building or employee retention. Lack of training to the employees was quite apparent.
