      Pros

      Fair Compensation and Good benefits Real life experience for new merchant seaman Lots of job opportunity in all ship employment. Good crews to sail with Engineers are in high demand

      Cons

      Time spent away from home can be long sometimes due to lack of personnel in the merchant marine industry. May be hard to manage if you are married.

      Pros

      Globe at your desk when you communicate with different countries worldwide on a day-to-day basis. Opportunity to move abroad. Fast cahnging environment - never bored.

      Cons

      Very technical job, too many SOPs and not much room for the flexibility or creativity. Not very intellectual - more firefighting when things fall outside of one person control.
