Pros

Salary and some of the people are the only good things about this place.

Cons

Very high turnover, very low employee morale, tremendous lack of communication, no leadership, policies and rules apply based on who likes you, nepotism running rampid - as long as your last name is Wang or you are a friend - no qualifications needed! A lot of yelling and swearing at employees. Management tells you one thing then does the opposite - get everything in writing! Very cheap - be prepared to bring your own office supplies. Be prepared to spend over $700.00 a month for your share of medical/dental benefits! Building is falling apart. Water is yellow/brownish and contains lead (they even have a sign in the kitchen over the sink!).

Pros

Paycheck, other than that, not much to say.

Cons

Managers who don't care about you, who say nothing to you for 2 years, then come to you and tell you they're letting you go because "You're not progressing as quickly as we'd like." I never had a verbal or written warning about my performance, never had a performance review in 2 years. Good managers will want you to succeed and let you know if they're having issues with you, not wait 2 years and then the first time they mention it to you is when they're firing you. The rest of the management is awful. It took weeks, if not months, to get credits and rebates approved and there was only one person who could give the approval and the managers were afraid to do anything because they feared his wrath. Other than that, the morale was awful, and the place looked like they bought the entire building and everything in it from Goodwill. If we had to email something to a customer, we had to use a scanner from 1987 and then save it to a program then go back to our desks and send the email. They refuse to spend any money so that their employees can do their jobs efficiently. I wish there was a way to give a zero rating. I was actually relieved when they told me they were letting me go!

Pros

I met and worked with some good people. I learned a lot while I was there, though not from training, from the experience. I believe that Steve Wang is an admirable person, just surrounded by the wrong people.

Cons

Everything about their business model is at least 30 years behind the times. Almost all of Senior Management subscribes to the idea that you can and should bully all of your subordinates. Completely unprofessional Managers who repeatedly scream "We are a world wide conglomerate!". There are Senior Managers in this company that wouldn't last 2 weeks working for any other company due to there actions displayed in the workplace. I was a Warehouse Manager for almost 10 years here. I was repeatedly lied to by Senior Management. I would be promised financial compensation if certain goals were achieved but once the desired results were given there was always an excuse for them to back out on their end and not honor our agreement. I was finally terminated for "poor performance" with never having been counseled, coached or informed in any way about any deficiencies in my performance by a newly hired "Director". They conveniently hired someone to fill my position at $15,000 less than I was making. Three years later they have gone through 5 Warehouse Managers and the "Director" has left the company to go and butcher another one. They are now closing several warehouses across the country. Sad to see a good man in Steve Wang have his company run into the ground by incompetent Senior Management.

MAT Holdings Response

I would first like to thank you for your dedication to the company for nearly 10 years and your kind words regarding Steve Wang. You bring up many valid concerns with our warehouse in Port Wentworth. Prior to its closing last year when certain customers changed their distribution models, the Port Wentworth warehouse went through more than its share of changes in leadership and that is never an easy situation. I am concerned about the other specific issues you raised and would like to discuss them in more detail. Please email me at bob.patton@mathold.com if you are willing to provide additional details.
