Pros

Very interesting projects to work on. The place has lots of PhDs floating around. Those guys think up the projects themselves but they also have to have an army of subcontractors to get the projects done. Contracts are (typically) measured in years, not months. I did 2 subcontract gigs there, both of which exceeded 2 years. I got some very valuable experience. I've also been told it a great place to retire from. Benefits, presumably because it's MIT, are about as liberal as it gets.

Cons

Salary, both perm and subcontract, appear to be lower than comparable positions in the private sector.

Pros

- Awesome people. Kind, intelligent, pleasure to work with - Great chances to study things or try new ideas - Very much oriented toward learning - Haven't experienced anyone acting "superior"

Cons

- Only negative is that as a co-op, I don't get PTO, so if I miss a day of work, I'm out that day's pay
