Others' willingness to share their expertise with you is exceptional. Knowledge and talent base excellent. Pension and ROTH option 401k with a big match. Hard work is rewarded with promotions every couple of years.
Cons
Supersaturated with academics; groups are often very top heavy. Academic achievement is the primary limitation for advancement into salaried positions (hard work can only get you so far). Perfect for flying under the radar as a union worker for the long haul. Old white dude vibe.
