Pros

Surrounded by motivated, smart people. Access to a lot of MIT resources, such as the medical center, writing center, free transit passes, etc. Small, tight-knit team within a larger MIT ecosystem.

Cons

Feels like a bubble, everyone is an academic.

Pros

- Conduct cutting edge research with world-class facilities at your disposal. - Be immersed in a zany, nerdy, passionate culture where there is absolutely something for everyone. - I love this school!

Cons

- The culture, ever since president Susan Hockfield, has been growing more and more "normal", caring more about the MIT brand and about covering itself legally than about the students themselves and the institutional knowledge and traditions that make the school a unique environment and engineering powerhouse. MIT is losing what it means to be MIT. - Some tenured professors from many years ago are no longer staying relevant and really ought not to be tenured, while some others are wonderful. Be careful and do your homework who you decide to work for.
