Pros

MIT is a vibrant community. There is always a lot to learn. Depending on where you work, it is easy to find collaborators around the Institute to work with.

Cons

As with any university, there are politics. I try to avoid them -- but sometimes it is not possible to forget that faculty are 'king' and there is a feeding chain from there. This can be frustrating -- so best to understand in advance.

Rigorous training, smart people, the brand name. Can be quite unfriendly, competitive and cliquey. In some departments your well being completely depends on successfully ingratiating yourself various people.

Cons

Can be difficult to maintain work-life balance. Expected to produce excellent results yet appear as if making no effort at all.
