Pros

Incredibly smart peers and advisor, great research environment, strong and easy access to cross domain resources, easy to start own initiatives

Cons

personally challenging- it is easier to have high expectations that lead to great pressure, highly competitive environment and colleagues might not have time to worry about you, students are independent and sometimes the cohort is not necessarily tight knit.

Pros

Comfortable work environment for many people. Work-life balance is a plus. Vacation days, health insurance, and 401K are decent.

Cons

Very difficult to get your foot in the door. Compensation is not often competitive - even for strong applicants. Promotional process is not transparent and increase amounts are limited. Would be a difficult adjustment for strong candidates from private sector.

Pros

A lot of freedom and intellectual emulation, a perfect place to grow on a personal and professional level. Very friendly community.

Cons

the experience varies group to group. Be very picky about your advisor, and try to know their reputation and advising style from the other graduate student.
