There a lot of good reasons to work here there's a lot of like-minded really smart people and a lot of cool collaborative options.

Cons

There are negative reasons to work here to Mit so they expect a lot from you in a lot of people work weekends even research scientists I'm not into

Being surrounded with such smart people is exciting and if you can hack it here, you'll do well anywhere.

Cons

The stakes are very high and there tends to be a lot of pressure, especially on postdocs and other junior scientists.

Pros

It's great to be around smart people, and of course very prestigious. And it's unlikely to ever have financial difficulties. Even in the worst of the 2008 downturn, when there was talk of belt-tightening, it was still fine. But mostly, come to MIT because you'll like whatever you'll be working on.

Cons

Some of the administration and departmental politics can be very difficult, and some personalities can be intense. Never forget it's a $3B/yr company at the top of it's game (even if it's non-profit), and it probably doesn't actually care about you, personally. Remember Aaron Swartz?
