Pros

Flexible schedules, respect for ideas that are efficient, reliable, or scale-able. Great, highly technical hands-on management in many areas of IT. Opportunity to learn about and implement cutting edge technologies on many facets of IT: network, server/infrastructure, cloud platforms, & storage/virtualization. An enterprise that runs like you would imagine a school of engineers would. Very little bureaucracy in the Information Systems & Technology area.

Cons

Very few, but a re-org is changing the shape of the IT department (for the better if Agile methodologies are fully implemented) and there are some frustrations as the occurs. Pay is great for higher-education, but still below private/corporate rates.

Pros

Resource, colleagues, funding are good. One of the best in the world maybe. Many core facilities on campus or in Cambridge.

Cons

Stress, competent, arrogant students. PI only concerns about funding and publications.
