Pros

You can put MIT on your resume.

Cons

I found colleagues to be very flat without a life outside of work. Employees don't move around into other positions due to a culture of feeling disloyal. As a result, folks are very burned out and have little interest in their work and life.

Pros

Smart colleagues, great benefits, vision to make the world better place.

Cons

Academic institutions can sometimes be slow moving and MIT is not immune to it even if they are pretty agile.

Pros

There is a lot of freedom in my specific lab, to pursue many ideas. The resources are exceptional--money is rarely a problem. We learn very valuable skills in leadership, project development, instrumentation, among many other crucial concepts.

Cons

The hours are high and the pay is exceptionally low. The departmental culture has a negative effect on many of the people in it.
