Pros

Great career resources for professional development and alumni networking for post-docs. Offers 401K plan for post-doc ASSOCIATES, but not for FELLOWS. Good medical center and overall kind people around the campus to work with. Pays 1/2 of the monthly T-pass.

Cons

Almost no work-life balance, depending on the lab you work on stress can be higher than the average research institution. Compensation of post-docs is low like all places, but it is especially negative factor when you consider how expensive cost of living in this city.

Pros

I worked in a lab in which the advisor is very hands off and allows independent exploration. The lab is doing incredible work in areas with high impact (autism, visual impairment) and the advisor does a great job finding applications for research. Very friendly lab, fun people who care about life as well as work.

Cons

Academia obviously does not compensate as much as industry. Experiences are very lab-dependent, so others may have not had such positive experiences.
