Pros

There are many non-money benefits. Vacation time is excellent. There's even a pension. MIT has many intangible benefits for the person who likes to work in a city.

Cons

Salary is politicized. As someone without a PhD, my salary is limited because I'm not considered top rank, though I have more experience than any post-doc. Like any big corporation, the red tape can sometimes get you down.

Pros

You will work with the best people on the hardest problems. The resources available are incredible. Wide variety of activities.

Cons

You are surrounded by the smartest people and will often feel rather slow compared to them. The intellectual pressure however can be draining.
