The culture and atmosphere is truely 1st class. Nearly every student and/or employee is enthusiastic and fully supported by the excellent faculty and institutional infrastructure.

Frustrating with no upward mobility

Pros

Interesting work and nice to be part of a World class educational and research institution. Benefits good (pay not as good). Work-life balance ok. Nice overall environment.

Cons

The VP for Finance office is now almost entirely managed by those with corporate and commercial backgrounds. No one has higher education experience and therefore problems arise in terms of understanding the "business" of education. Policies are made only to then have exceptions depending on who's asking. The worst is that HR actively restrict upward internal mobility. Annual reviews are completely useless because no matter how wonderfully you do, your annual increase will never exceed a particular rate (think below rate of inflation) and there is NO upward mobility. No flex schedule options.
