Great and friendly environment for scientists or people that are passionate for research. Needless to say, lots of really smart people. Great health care benefits

Politics may exist in certain departments.

highly dependent on research advisor

Pros

MIT is known for world class people and resources, and for the most part this is true. It is a large institute with many exciting things going on.

Cons

The day to day experience of a grad student is largely dependent on the research advisor. Some good advice I received: make your graduate school selection on the following criteria in this order: 1) Advisor (personality and reputation, his/her research interests). 2) Research Project. 3) School Reputation
