Pros

Innovative, off-the-beaten path spirit, management (in my department) really does strive for transparency, staff feedback for major decisions (hiring leadership, changes to policy or space planning) are encouraged and solicited. Great people on staff: smart, friendly, supportive, for the most part love what they do. Just a great culture to be a part of.

Cons

This is academia, so if you want to move forward, you pretty much wait for someone to a.) leave or b.) retire. I've only been here for about 2 years so maybe I'm impatient, but yes, I am frustrated that in that time, no attainable opportunities for promotion have opened up. Also, the campus is dotted with really ugly sculptural art. It's like, REALLY ugly. Why??

Pros

Professors, level of research, people, freedom in time management, opportunities, business oriented minds, possibility of taking courses at Harvard and Sloan, many societies and clubs, great contacts, good fun overall

Cons

Groups focused on modelling don't really have great equipment in the laboratories, microscopy is not as good as at Oxford, both XRD and SEM is usually overbooked
