Independence and creativity is highly valued. Endless opportunities for networking and expanding skills and education. Great benefits. Outstanding and inspirational community.

Cons

Not so good pay for junior positions. Slow hierarchical climbing. Not a great place for people expecting highly structured working space.

Good, but they think that they're better than they are.

Pros

There's a lot of pride in the community at MIT, and a lot of freedom as well.

Cons

Leadership tends to be "pale, male, and stale." While there are opportunities for advancement, these usually don't come with adequate salary increases. It's one of MIT's worst kept secrets that you can only reasonably expect 1-3% annual raises, despite quality of the work done and increased job responsibilities; and worse, most promotions only generate a 10% increase in pay.
