Pros

Grad student union, high stipend, wonderful fellow students

Cons

Toxic faculty, under-supported staff (research and admin staff), very corporate feeling, little emphasis on teaching (only research), licks the boot of whichever company/industry/donor is willing to give them money

great place to get a foot in the door, but don't stay too long

Pros

Great benefits. Great people. Fantastic place to start a career.

Cons

Limited accountability. Toxic workplace. Minimal room for growth. Uneven management. Siloed departments and groups. Depending on where you work, pay is limited. Lots of red tape. Hard to make changes. Everything moves at a glacial pace. No prioritization. No (consistent or upheld) standards. Long-term learning/growth/earning potential are capped if you stay too long. Get out before you get too comfortable and realize you're boxed into the role you've got and there is no escape hatch.
