      Decent place to work, very collaborative, small raises

      Pros

      The people are very collaborative. Always willing to work with you on just about anything. Company focus on work life balance is great, but often times dependent on the client needs. Benefits are pretty good. Company is constantly trying to keep engaged with its workforce. People generally treat you like an adult and do not micromanage you. you are encouraged and generally free to explore around the company for opportunities that you want to work on regardless of your organizational home.

      Cons

      Government client can be slow to work with. Salary gains are small to non-existent. You don't always get to focus on one skillset that you may want to perfect. You need to work on what is available, but the upside to that is that there are many opportunities. Timing is sometimes the key determining factor. while you can spread your wings in different types of work, advancement is slow. not really a place where you can "move up".

      hit and miss

      Pros

      1) Reasonable pay and benefits for new hires. (This deteriorates over time, as pay raises are low at MITRE) 2) The work-life balance is really unbeatable in the DC area. 3) Opportunities for advanced degree reimbursement (MS and PhD degrees) 4) Sometimes -- and this is highly variable -- the opportunity to do interesting or impactful project work

      Cons

      1) "Who you know" is very important at MITRE for getting good project assignments, just as it is at most consulting companies. 2) Skill obsolescence is tolerated at MITRE. There is quite a bit of dead wood in the MTS-5/MTS-6 ranks. 3) MITRE staff and management often reinforce the bad behaviors of our sponsors: Laziness, indecision, lack of accountability, lack of results. 4) The "Strengthen the Technical Core" (STC) process is corrupt and broken --> It needs to be less subjective and more evidence based.

      Pros

      The work at MITRE is interesting and challenging and your coworkers are some of the brightest people in their fields. Great benefits and a fantastic retirement program. Very competitive pay.

      Cons

      Employees working at sites don't always have access to some of the great benefits available when you work at the Bedford or McLean campuses. Through the course of your work you will often bump into very smart, very tactless engineers.
