Pros

No one with good working ethics and sharp mind will be ignored. Good career path for A level employees. Flexible working location and open communications.

Cons

Like all start up companies, have many younger millennials that needs mentoring and could use more management's time. Customers are more difficult to deal with comparing to other software companies.

A Family Culture

Pros

Between kickball, music festivals, a random Friday night at the brewery this team has become my family. Since the beginning, both founders have sought to bring a culture of inclusion, diversity, and free thought. Most of the reviews are correct in that this isn't a 9-5 job though - you'll work long hours. But that's the best part; you'll spend it with people you like- the reviews also talk about how awesome the people are. It's an amazing group of intelligent, hard working people who genuinely like each other, help each other and have managed to keep this company at the top of the fastest growing industry. Another great thing is they invest in the people; you can define your own career path - no one will tell you how to do it though. You have to just be willing to do it.

Cons

If you're looking for a 9-5, this won't be for you. It's hard to separate yourself from work; there is a comfortable work life balance in that, you'll constantly be thinking about what's next, what do I need to do to help, while playing kickball (with the team). You quickly understand who fits in and who doesn't for that reason.

Poor leadership, unethical, go here at your peril

Pros

Unlimited vacation. For now. Interesting industry.

Cons

I've worked in plenty of startups, or companies experiencing rapid growth. I've never worked anyplace other than MJ Freeway that was so chaotically disorganized. It starts at the top with Amy and Jessica. They tout their ethical approach to doing business and how their employees are treated. Might want to check out their turnover, which is very, very high. Nepotism and favoritism abound, including hiring relatives into leadership roles. Ethics are situational. Leadership style is bullying and belittling, despite talking about how important their employees are and how enlightened leadership is. Why do people stay? The hope that eventually the company will sell and their internal equity grant will amount to something. They have chronic denial of service attacks, their systems go down with some regularity, they have no strategic plan and it's a wonder they keep the doors open. Salaries are poor. And while they pay the cost of benefits, the benefits are so bad as to be laughable. It's an interesting industry, on the plus side. But there are a lot of shady people involved in this industry, which is in its infancy in terms of being legal in most states, so plan to work with some interesting ethics when you're in the field.
