      Don't do it, but if you do, think of it as the minor leagues or the on-deck circle - preparation for bigger endeavors

      Pros

      It provided me decent experience to move on to bigger and better things.

      Cons

      Little analytical expertise, poor mentorship, a bit of a one-size-fits-all approach to skill development, unimpressive department leadership, politics akin to a small rural town. If you have to work there, do it for a short time, and move onto something better. Notwithstanding discouragement, targeted sabotage, and frequently being patronized by people that now make much less money than I do now, I eventually got through it and have since had a successful career. However, had I known what I do now, I would have taken a different path.

      Company does great work in public health and is very well respected.

      Cons

      Very limited opportunities for advancement unless you want to become an affiliate employee. Limited pay increases and low compared to other companies.
