Pros

I've worked here for several years and can't say enough good things about the company and it's people. Overall, MRE Consulting has given me access to opportunities that I never would have gotten at previous employers. It's a meritocracy, where you can get out whatever you are willing to put in. At MRE, I feel I'm treated as an individual and with the ability to tailor my career in whatever direction I want it to go. The company has a great mentoring program, allowing me to learn a lot about entrepreneurship and management, both of which are passions of mine. I find the work is varied and interesting, and the company has taken my personal goals, interests and preferences into account when assigning me to projects. The partners and company leaders are easily accessible and always willing to talk to employees, which is awesome. I feel like they care about me as a person and treat me with respect. There are also excellent opportunities for career growth and a path to partnership, for those that want it. Most importantly, I feel that the company always acts with integrity and fairness towards it employees.

Cons

Consulting isn't for everyone. It's a demanding job, but the rewards are well worth the effort if you are willing to make the investment in yourself.

Great Consulting Bootcamp

Pros

Get up to speed on a wide variety of topics very quickly. Get acquainted with many different customer environments. Improve your professional experience faster than other slower pace environments. If you are looking to break out of the corporate world, consulting at a company such as MRE, really boosts your career in ways you never thought. Great place to network and get to know other strong consultants. In my experience, having a consulting background really sets me apart from others in my industry; I get exposed to a much broader set of business and technical challenges than many of my peers do.

Cons

You need to be willing to put in the hours, not really a con. You really get out what you are willing put in, I guess that is not really a con. A word of warning, consulting is not for everyone. If you prefer more of the 9-5 corporate rhythm, maybe consulting is not for you. However, you need to be careful to always continue to invest in yourself and in your career. If's is not with a consulting company, then find the right place for you, but don't let yourself become stale.

Pros

There are some smart consultants here. The company always makes money, specifically the partners.

Cons

One owner is a Qanon conspiracy theorist (that is true) and also has a reputation for bullying and verbally attacking people that work for him. After a quick period of time it will be evident who the favorites are and if you're not a favorite you might as well leave immediately. Management manipulates situations especially around larger deals in an effort to keep their pockets full. They have decreased salaries recently and are being "selective" on who gets that money back. They even docked hourly folks that were billable... If you go there in a senior capacity make sure you confirm understanding of how they bill overhead. Look at the partner pool and you will notice diversity is missing. More than One of the partners is known for having some party traits that would be defined as less than professional. Morality is second to money here.

MRE Consulting Response

Thank you for taking the time to post on Glassdoor. We are sorry your experience here was not what you wanted. You are correct that MRE has been financially successful for many years. The three founding partners of MRE have been implementing a plan to involve more senior managers and directors in ownership and decision-making. Not all of these efforts have worked out. Confidentiality prevents us from explaining every decision on this forum or even to other employees. MRE thought it handled the pandemic’s effect on our business very equitably. Largely because of the effects on the energy industry, our employee count, and profits regressed. We look forward to building back soon with people of all races, genders, and political viewpoints. MRE does not cancel anyone or favor anyone not related to job performance and fitting into our culture of hard work and delivering results for our clients.
