This is mainly directed at a subsidiary of MUFG.
My experience was on the marketing side, not banking. Unfortunately, the marketing department lacked true marketing expertise. Many of the so-called marketing professionals had little to no background in the field and it showed in their work.
Although I was praised by other departments for my work ethic and ability to learn the business, I rarely received the same acknowledgment from within my own team. Instead, I dealt with microaggressions, doubts about my talent, and little support.
Marketing leadership showed no interest in developing their staff and seemed unprepared to lead effectively. Much of the work leaned toward administrative tasks rather than real marketing.
During the COVID pandemic, even when I produced at a high level and delivered more than before, I was told I was not carrying my weight. That disconnect was discouraging.
Some sales and business professionals were verbally abusive, often shifting blame for their own lack of direction or preparation onto marketing when mistakes occurred. Shared services staff frequently had to absorb this treatment.
If you work directly in sales or investor services, this company provides good opportunities and a strong career path. If you are in shared services, especially marketing, your experience may be very different. I have heard there is now new leadership in marketing that seems much more competent. I only wish I had that support during my time there.
