Pros

discounts are generous. good sales for employees. relatively flexible hours. however the new automated scheduling program takes that away. good benefits. there are worse retail outlets to work for. if you're in a commission department then you usually fair better than most. Christmas is a big pain, staying open till midnight or later was never a fun thing.

Cons

long hours and some really disgruntled customers. managers are often short sighted and incompetent. often unaware of what's going on. Problem getting communication from management. They often would not share memos to pass along the information. Very hard for them to sympathize with associates.

Pros

The company has a strong history and structured system in place that is both easy to intergrate into and allows for mastery of tasks. Good resources and technology allow for fast paced enviormental changes.

Cons

The company employees a complicated management system with numerous levels and accountabilities. There are many "bosses" in place with differing agendas and skill levels. This leads to unclear expectations and direction.

Pros

It is a large, well respected national retailer. Macy's is dedicated to giving back to the community and does several charity events. Macy's is trying to go green through recycling in several areas. Macy's puts out a lot of training materials that, if used properly, can help create strong selling teams.

Cons

Long hours, lack of communication, frequent change of direction due to changes in cerntral structure. It is reatail. You are sometimes just a cog in the wheel. Since we were once another retailer and were absorbed by Macy's, there are a lot of things (reports, procedures) that we find out by accident or from someone who "happened" upon them. There hasn't been a lot of guidance from legacy macy's people to help us become better at being Macy's.
