Pros

You meet a lot of interesting people working in retail..and the plus side of cosmetics (at least in my store) was that you weren't responsible for organizing too much inventory overall typical retail job

Cons

This is the type of place you only "work to get a check" because Macy's doesn't give you too much else 20% discount that can only be used when using your macy's credit card

Pros

The discount & "Macy's Money" are great. My department manager is very supportive (but totally over-worked). Flexibility with scheduling to a certain degree.

Cons

The pressure to open new charge accounts is unreasonable. The constant barrage of sales is ridiculous. The extended hours are gruelling. ...and, unfortunately, alot of the prestige once associated with Macy's is dwindling. The difference between Macy's, Kohl's, & JCPenney is getting harder to discern...it wasn't always that way.

Macy's - typical retail

Pros

Easy schedule - not alot of overtime except during December. Opportunities for advancement if interested in moving... if not, opportunities are much more limited.

Cons

Lack of flexibility. Retail hours. Company is huge, so your ideas are unlikely to be implemented on a wide scale.
