Pros

-Many opportunities to have direct interaction with clients even at the entry-level positions. You will have the opportunity to work closely with clients (top bank executives) and learn from them based on their feedback and their decision-making skills. -Good professional experience for people starting their careers. You get to work under the supervision of different managers and can get knowledge about different leadership styles while working on various projects. -Employees work on projects that can give them insights into the kind of work they like and don’t like in order to follow career paths aligned to their particular interests. -In the US, this company is small and employees can spend a lot of time working and interacting with co-workers. The company has a very diverse workforce and everyone is willing to help and share knowledge. Furthermore, there are some great people that will likely become friends beyond MS. -Great benefits including healthcare insurance, 401K plan, and 22 vacation days. -Good annual salary increases with merit-based bonuses. MS provides a clearly defined career plan.

Cons

-Too much emphasis on “face time” to show clients that consultants are working even though the reality might be different. For example, for one project, I had to go into work at 8am even though I had absolutely no work just because that’s the time the client arrived to work. -A lot of the work is time consuming but doesn’t require much thinking which can get frustrating. If work is not exciting, then motivation is hard to maintain.

Pros

-Not very long hours (9 to 7 is not a bad schedule in Finance), on average -Great, diverse co-workers. You really get to work with smart people from all over Europe and the Americas. -Constant contact with the client. -Clients are generally large, globally-significant institutions. -Some opportunity to travel, if desired. Great per diem packages when doing so. Opportunities, however, are more limited for US consultants, especially internationally. -A lot of collaborative work with people at all levels in the company. -Biannual reviews from supervisors are helpful in identifying strengths and points of improvements, although communication about roles and expectations could be improved.

Cons

-Almost no say on the projects you get. -Opportunities for travel are long-term (3-6 month at the least). -Apart from the community of employees in the same clients, there is a limited push for a cohesive, inclusive company culture. -A lot of the work is dry, especially as an entry-level assistant. -Very few projects in strategy, business management, product decisions, etc. Some projects have parts that fit into those categories, but it is limited. -Salary is low for the industry, though there is a good, structured system of promotions and salary increases that helps to bridge the gap.
