Pros

The pay and benefits were pretty good. I enjoyed working with most of the people there. Management allowed me a lot of freedom and ability to make my own decisions in doing my job - maybe a little too much as detailed below. I had heard horror stories from people who were working for other recruitment or staffing firms, so I was a bit hesitant to accept a position with Manpower, but for the most part, Manpower is a decent company to work for. They treat their (staff) employees respectfully and fairly. It is a global company and is somewhat respected in the industry.

Cons

Management can be too hands off at times, I felt like I was going it alone for the most part...not much feedback on performance, either positive or negative. The company seems to be going through a rough patch at the moment, experiencing some downsizing because of the current job market. Communications from HQ are also few and far between, maybe a state of the company email every quarter and that's it, employee morale is low right now, a lot of people are worried about their jobs as we've heard some offices have already been downsized or closed all together.

Pros

Manpower is an innovative company that is not afraid to put new business models in place to support canidates and clients. Manpower is also one of most ethical companies around - that says alot in today's market of collapsing giants. And finally, the culture at Manpower is what you would expect at a company that is the the HR biz - straight talk with employees and solid feedback to support career growth.

Cons

Lots of hours and in some cases unreasonable deadlines - nothing that I would not expect of a company with high growth aspirations.

Pros

Manpower is a great introduction into the staffing industry. They are still among the top agencies out there and are very well known. Manpower has plenty of great additional benefits to service the customer; testing, online classes, electronic timecards, etc. Decent benefits with matching 401k, discounts on stock purchases, and opportunity for quarterly bonuses.

Cons

Manpower is now faced with plenty of competition. Normally, a business will shop around, get quotes and take the cheapest one. Also, most businesses have sent production overseas which makes getting new business difficult, especially in the Silicon Valley. There is business to be had but most companies will hire the employee on permanent after three months - so plan to take one step forward, two back quite often. The technology used at the branch offices is way out of date. Branch Managers should all have blackberrys or another device to check email while out in the field. I spent about 70 % doing sales calls and 30% keeping up on everything else involved in the branch.
