Maplesoft has a good technology and there is a lot to learn. However, unfortunately it has a toxic culture. First, there is a subtle yet extremely hurtful racism under the skin of this company, flowing like blood in the veins. Being one of the very few "non blue-eyed" employees in there, I was subject to numerous racial mistreatment and insults. There were many stupid racial or religious slurs from teammates or managers. This may look surprising as the company is based in Canada, but the reality is, in the lack of proper leadership, diversity was almost non-existent and employees from any minority group were singled out and isolated.
Second, there was this annoying "mathematicians vs. engineers" thing! Engineers (even those with top-notch PhDs) were considered second class employees and must constantly prove themselves that they actually knew some math! There were always some toxic jokes around by a bunch of arrogant managers with math degrees about engineers being lousy and incompetent. The funny thing (or sad, depending on your point of view) is that they were and still are trying to penetrate into the engineering software market with MapleSim and they need brilliant engineers more than ever.
