Pros

The Pros: 1. They are pretty open to new ideas, but tough to implement. Some things have been in place so long that no one wants to rock the boat 'cause no one REALLY knows all the details. There will be alotta people who know little bits, but it's going to be up to you to put it all together and perform the change. 2. They support continual learning. They set aside money to get new certs and continue self betterment. 3. Not a lot of micromanagement. For self motivated workers this is great... for slackers.. it will frustrate those who are motivated. And in my experience, this is a fairly large contributor of people eventually leaving. 4. Flexible family balance, actually i would say very flexible. 5. I think this is boss specific, but they offer WFH to some positions. 6. Alotta room to learn new things. They are very open to you learning new areas and cross learning. again, good for a self motivated person. 7. My boss. My boss is one of the best i have ran into my career. There are always diamonds in the rough and this person is certainly a diamond in the rough at Maritz ... 8. Emulates a 24/7/365 hosting facility. If you desire to work for a datacenter who performs SaaS, this is a similar makeup and has similar needs. From the challenges to patch windows to procedural challenges any 24/7/365 shop would encounter. 9. Onsite Cafeterias and bank. 10. Once or so a year, they sell old warehouse products for fairly cheap to clear out old stock. Could pick up a decent deal or two if you needed something specific. 11. Nice campus to walk around. They keep the campus really clean and there are some walking paths and shuttles to get people around. Nice place to go out and take a walk for lunch. They also have a security car or two that trolls around for safety. Well above average for cleanliness. 12. Personal offices. Again, could be a plus or minus. In a lot of tech areas, they have their own own offices. Now i think its because a lot of the tech areas are extremely dated and it would cost too much to demo and put in half cubicles. But in my personal opinion, this is a plus. 13. Slightly flexible hours. This falls under “depends on your manager” but some roles allow for a little flexibility with your hours so long as core hours are covered. That is also very nice. 14. Most people i work with are friendly. Mind you, that doesn't mean they are good at their job, but they are mostly friendly.

Cons

The Cons: 1. Not a very up to date or nice work area. Most of the place looks pretty dated. 2. Alot of user names and password to keep up with in the beginning. I think i had 7 or 8 right off the bat all with different times the password would change. 3. Lack of long term goal from most levels of management. Management has flat out said that they are looking to us to drive. To bring ideas and make it happen. That's great and all, but we still need someone steering the ship in some sort of general direction. 4. Lack of management communication. This is always a challenge in big companies, but i feel i should know the general direction of the IT dept just by working in it, but no one there will be able to answer this question. There's a lot of personal agenda’s floating around, but no one is generally steering the ship. 5. Pretty poor workstations. Not a huge deal to me, but would be nice if we had more up to date machines. 6. Really poor on boarding process. I feel most of what i was told when they took me on wasn't even pertinent to the job. I received very little job pertinent information. I had to learn most of that on the fly. If you like sink or swim, then this is not a big deal. If you are a “sinker”, then this is going to be tough for you. I’ve heard this complaint from multiple people. 7. Doesn't operate like a hosting facility. We are very much a hosting facility, but we don't think or are not equipped to function as one effectively or competitively. 8. Alot of people working hard, but not working smart. Its hard for some people are Maritz to stop working like you used to 15 years ago.

Pros

Simple repetitive work. This division could be a great place for creatives.

Cons

Mind numbing, actually. A sort of "push-the-button monkey" attitude toward creatives. Be ready to be manged by long-time people who have no idea how to do the work but think they do know how to because they have some software installed on their laptop. Be a game-player and be ready to take a beating when a project manager or a web producer doesn't manage something properly and they are backed into a corner. You will pay dearly for their inability. Also, do no apply for a position elsewhere in the organization...this does depend on your manager...the online system sends your boss an email as soon as you apply. Downhill fast from there. I was warned from the start by some inside and outside to get out ASAP or they will grind you into the ground. I tried to make a difference but it fell on many deaf ears. years wasted. Can't even get a fair reference.

Pros

People you work with and some of the ones you work for. Flexible scheduling and at least for me, family focused.

Cons

Overworked and under appreciated. We're a motivation company for other external organizations, yet we can't seem to motivate our own employees. You would think that a company with that background would be able to help themselves. We're a research company too, but most of the surveys that we are asked to fill out - employee surveys, etc. - are ran by outside organizations. We can't run our own research. To much emphasis on change and not enough emphasis on the employee. Loosing all the long tenured employees, bringing in the less experienced, so to most it seems that's it's just about the money and no longer about the people. Good luck with that kind of thinking.
