      Great company, but not a lot of career opportunities

      Pros

      Great corporate culture and work-life balance. Plenty of great co-workers and managers looking our for your well-being. Upper management doing a great job of building value in the company itself.

      Cons

      As a publicly-traded company, shareholders are priority number one, not the employees. Treated as dispensable and under compensated compared to the competition. Alarming amount of nepotism as the best people are frequently overlooked for positions. Losing large numbers of underwriters and not filling those positions, rather pushing more responsibilities on support staff.

      Used to be a great company to work for

      Pros

      Benefits are good, employees are wonderful and hard working.

      Cons

      Lower than industry pay, bonus potential is good for underwriters but the goal is so out of reach that you will never come close to a decent bonus. Many people this year actually have to pay back thousands of dollars in bonuses from previous years due to losses. This company treats their employees as a number instead of a valued employees. If you are an underwriter your worth is whatever your loss ratio is and no amount of hard work and bringing in good business matters to upper management.

      Great people, great track record, profitable, great stock program, 401k match, profit sharing is really nice

      Cons

      Base pay is only ok, company is clearly trying to cut cost by reducing head count, bonus subject to change and underwriting performance
