Pros

There are very few pros to working at Matador - the pay is competitive but the culture completely negates that. The 9/80 schedule is seen as a pro for some.

Cons

Very poor leadership from the top (Joe Foran, CEO) down. To be fair, there are a few good guys tucked away in upper management, but they’ll unfortunately always be under Joe’s thumb. Micro-management in all aspects but especially in work life balance (there is none). This is not a family friendly work environment whatsoever. There is no HR department which means the CEO makes every decision on an individual basis for every employee. This includes pay & bonuses and maternity leave time (which is laughable, beware if you’re a young woman looking to become a mother). There is only one policy at Matador and that is that Joe Foran is the end all, be all. The poor culture is entirely created and dictated by him. He relishes in the power of his position and his grip is tight. This company participates in some shady practices. For example, during the annual shareholder voting period this year, a department head specifically stated that any shares given to you by the company must be voted in agreement with the board of directors or you risk termination. Even gave an example of someone who voted against the board in a previous year and was terminated shortly after. Another example, if you buy or are given stock, you’re never allowed to sell it without first asking Joe’s permission at which point you’re likely on the chopping block for even asking. As mentioned in the many negative reviews below, the handling (or should I say mishandling?) of all things covid related have been woeful at best. The most incomprehensible and hypocritical of them all is that you’re allowed to travel by commercial plane for work with no restrictions and can return to the office upon arrival back in Dallas, but if you want to just *drive* to your family’s house in another city, you’re questioned about who/what/where/when/why and then your request goes through a C-suite executive to get Joe’s permission. After all of that, you’re likely going to be required to take extra PTO to quarantine after. Because your family is clearly just a bunch of disgusting Petri dishes brewing up Covid for you to bring back to the office and the Delaware basin is the only safe place to travel these days. If you want to be treated like a responsible adult that doesn’t need to be babysat, if you value diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace, if you’re looking for a long term job where you will be rewarded for more than just brown nosing your boss, this is not the company for you.
