Pros

Challenging and exciting environment, full of smart people extremely passionate about their jobs. The company is based on solid principles, nothing is left to chance: from the internal organization to the development of the software. Possibility of working on different things and acquire domain knowledge from different fields.

Cons

After six months I can hardly say there are any cons. Probably the salary (compared to other software companies) is the biggest cons one can expect.

Pros

Wonderful benefits, competitive salary, smart co-workers, interesting work assignments, lots of training and professional development opportunities, non-hierarchical / non-bureaucratic structure, two-track structure: technical expert or managerial.

Cons

Learning the products requires a lot of time, steep learning curve, some co-workers are a bit introverted given the product type, commute from Boston can be long despite being a "reverse commute"

Superb software company, the least Dilbert-like I've heard of

Pros

The company really values everyone's opinions. They know that developers have technical insights that managers won't, and respect devs' comments appropriately. "Rational workplace" is one of the core values, and is very obvious throughout the company: the reasons for decisions are generally public, and even in the exceptional cases managers will be happy to explain in private. MathWorks has a huge concern for software quality and stamping out bugs, with the attitude that everyone can contribute. Developers can be promoted to management but can stay as senior developers with no management responsibilities if they prefer. Salary increases above inflation every year even during the recession.

Cons

The company's not keen on part-time working or working from home. They have a lot of processes and practices, some of which are pretty heavyweight: development philosophy is not very "agile".
