      Fantastic Summer Job, Laid-Back Atmosphere

      Pros

      This was a very relaxing and rewarding environment to work in. I loved working with the kids, the pay was fair, my boss was always understanding and flexible, and for the most part I was able to set my own schedule.

      Cons

      There were not many opportunities for upward mobility/taking more responsibility in the company. If you were a tutor, you had an expected number of hours and set pay. There wasn't anything to work "up" to.

      Keeps you on your toes

      Pros

      At my location, the instructors (including the assistant directors) are a very autonomous unit. We work together well and do our best to make things fun for everyone. The hours are more reliable than private tutoring, and everything is conducted in a learning center.

      Cons

      Our boss is fairly detached from day-to-day occurrences; he stops in once a week maximum. When he does visit, he sometimes intimidates the students or pulls the instructors aside for needlessly long conversations during our busiest point in the day. The pay is less than you would get from private tutoring.
