Pros

- It's part-time, so it's easy to manage along with school-work. - It's a very easy job: you help students understand concepts that they are having difficulty with. You sit most of the time and you walk around only when moving to help another student. - Materials to be taught is very easy - up to grade 12 (calculus and vectors, here in Ontario), so if you're good at math, it's an easy job. - You have plenty of ways to teach the students - they give you various tools that can help you in teaching them (they're called manipulatives). For e.g. they have various polyhedra to help students visualize what polyhedra look like. They also have fake money so that it's easier for instructors to teach students about money.

Cons

- If you're looking for a full-time position, you probably won't get it. - The pay isn't that great - No benefits packages

Pros

The kids are always great. If you like working with kids, you'll enjoy working at Mathnasium. The schedule is often flexible. I personally tried to work as many shifts as possible but I know we often had people on the team only working one or two shifts a week by choice.

Cons

Not enough hours to make a living - you need to find another part-time job to fit around the centre's hours if you are trying to support yourself. The schedule through the school year is kind of annoying if you work every day it's open. You work Monday-Thursday, have Friday off, then work Saturday, then have Sunday off. It might surprise you how much different having two days off in a row vs. two separate days off can feel for your mental health. I found both centres I've worked at to be somewhat unorganized and often the communication with staff about things like schedule changes, summer hours, etc. was delayed or nonexistent.

Pros

Friendly coworkers and good students. Students begrudgingly learn, and seem to enjoy it when they get into the swing of things. This makes work fun.

Cons

Work can be very repetitive, and the curriculum has a few problems. Some topics receive too much focus while others are neglected.
