Pros

Provides an opportunity to understand your own strengths and weaknesses as a primary or secondary school math teacher. Flexible scheduling is possible. The curriculum is solid.

Cons

The pay is barely above minimum wage, which leads to a lot of staff turnover. Most instructors at my site were high school students, with a few adult re-treads such as myself.

I’m sharing this review mainly as feedback for management. I genuinely enjoyed working with most instructors and students-- it's why I chose to work there, even though I could have taken higher-paying jobs. It was a rewarding job and students and families I worked with were consistently positive and appreciative of my support. Unfortunately, management got in the way of fully enjoying and doing my job, making the environment mentally taxing for me.

Cons

I’ve never had a poor relationship with any other employer, but the manager was a very different story. Despite top qualifications and performance scores, I faced extra scrutiny compared to other employees, was asked personal questions even after saying they were private, and received vague or inconsistent feedback (for example, being told a student cried without knowing what actually happened). I tried hard to maintain patience and professionalism, yet flexibility was offered to others and not to me, and I was asked to resign rather than given direct feedback or support. Oh, and my interview for a minimum-wage position lasted over an hour — while others reportedly had much shorter ones. Experiences may vary depending on management, so prospective employees should be aware.
