Pros

The outstanding is very good for the job I did compared to industry standards. Benefits: pension, profit sharing, tuition reimbursement (even for your kids), great medical coverage. These far outshine any package I've ever heard of. I was also surrounded by a lot of very bright fellow employees.

Cons

Statistically, it is impossible to get promoted or advance to positions of greater responsibility. Promotions are based on factors like company growth or expansion and others' advancement or exit. Growth doesn't happen very often at all. And when there is an opening, there are 30 people waiting for consideration. Good luck, since often its filled from outside. So look forward to 5, 10 years in your job before any real opportunities come your way.

Pros

Great pay Good benefits Dependable hours Smart people

Cons

Mediocrity and playing the game beat talent everyday You are not allowed to drink coffee at your desk - ever! only on one 15 minute break a day! Management treats people as if they cannot think for themselves Overall, no one is challenged or given the opportunity to improve themselves People get fired for not being "in" with the right people despite their good job performance The company refuses to change its business model from the one it developed in the 70's It is a very high stress position (as you are constantly graded on work statistics, given no exceptions for things like trips to the doctors, sick days home with the children [this WILL show up on your review], and are reprimanded for checking a person email even once a day) Also, the management is condescending and downright nasty to employees.

Pros

The happiest people here are the ones waiting to retire. The best benefits of any company I've ever worked for but you pay for it in boredom.

Cons

An employee’s potential is already determined upon hiring. They seem to be very proud of the caste system they have created and work hard to sustain its existence. There is a very wide division between management and the drones. Competition among the “drones” is fierce and mostly fruitless, which leads to disgruntled feelings among anyone who tries to advance. If a drone attempts any advancement, it is mostly met with confusion. Ambitious underlings (however capable) have no place in their equation. Your voice/opinion will not be heard unless you are in management. It’s true that much is expected of management. There is a revolving door of recent Ivy League graduates trying to find a “project” that will catapult them into permanency. Their jobs are similar to the drones, but MD kids get paid about twice that of a drone.
