Pros

On the job learning experience.

Cons

Confused, reactive, greedy executive staff, mediocre management, under-trained sales staff and neglected, under-appreciated editorial staff is eating this place alive. The turnover in all departments is beyond anything I've ever witnessed. Every management or administrative position vacated and replaced brought a halt to the current "plan" and a new plan began with the new person. There was no consistency or die hard plan to stick with through whatever it took to succeed. The vision changed as often as staff and caused huge losses in morale. We were trying to remain the small community newspaper to our community while being lead by a group of corporate gurus who had no knowledge of the markets or what the papers meant to the residents of the communities we served in Washtenaw County. The two true leaders we were blessed with didn't stay long enough to make a true difference. They saw the iceberg and bailed before they became two more casualties. In a nutshell, DFM was the most poorly run company I've ever worked for in 40 years in the workforce. . At one time, this company had an opportunity to become a digital powerhouse AND maintain their community newspaper presence. Unfortunately, greed prevailed and, in my opinion, will be the demise of DFM and it's properties.
