Pros

If being of service to society is important to you, Meditech gives you the opportunity to create software for clinics and hospitals. Ultimately, your work will contribute to quality care for sick patients. (If you do think this way, keep in mind that most customers are for-profit hospitals. You are helping sick people... and those sick people may be driven bankrupt because of it.) The buildings and interiors are beautiful. There is always somewhere to park. They have cafes in all the buildings.

Cons

-They have embraced a mostly hybrid work schedule, meaning that you only need to come to the office 2-3 days a week. But the commute is absolutely horrifying if you live more than 20 minutes away from your office. Expect regular commute times of 90 minutes or more. The impact to your mental health will be destructive, and, in the long term, shattering. If you work there, find a place to live close by. Your life depends on it. They will be callous regarding this requirement. -They mostly use proprietary software. Overall, working there will be somewhat bad for your resume. There are a few companies who value your experience there (such as Avera and HCA), but for the most part the industry won't know what to do with you. You might do well if you get a job as a GCP engineer, however. -They chronically underpay their employees.

Pros

They'll hire you; yes, even you. You don't really have to try very hard. There's no expectations around knowing what you are doing. Plenty of opportunity for promotions Stable job -- never had layoffs, and you have to go out of your way to get fired

Cons

The opportunities for promotions exist because everyone above you just quit. Pay is barely above half the industry norm. Benefits are laughable, and have been steadily getting worse - while management acts like they have the best benefits anyone in the world has ever seen. An obsession with collecting metrics (see 15 minute time tracking) that are then never used for anything. This includes an extremely bad JIRA setup that makes the system incredibly slow. A terrible product that is hated by its users. (Search reddit for Meditech) You will be told that a 3600/yr raise is exceptional. With very few exceptions you will not learn a single transferable skill. Everything is proprietary. HR is your supervisor You will be given terrible hardware, and told it's a good thing, because it helps catch performance problems. You are completely responsible for setting up your work at home environment, and will given a single 20" monitor to do your work on. Company has been around since the 60s, and doesn't seem to realize that time keeps going.
