Solid Experience However Poorly Managed

Pros

As a junior person on the investment team, you get exposed to a lot of different areas of investing: asset management, underwriting, marketing and IR.

Cons

Lack of mentorship / communication from management regardless if you are proactive and seek feedback. Hard work and merit will not always equate to better comp / promotions. Often times you are pressured to change who you are and fit the “Medley mold” in order to get ahead.

Solid Experience However Poorly Managed

Pros

As a junior person, you get a solid experience working with people on the deal team learning the fundamentals of credit focused asset management while also working on underwriting of new investments.

Cons

Poor mentorship / communication regardless if you seek full transparency from managers. You can’t rely strictly on hard work and merit to get you through year end comp / review time. Often times you feel the need to change who you are to fit the particular Medley mold in order to get ahead.
