Pros

- Decent salary if you’re just starting out and have no kids or major financial responsibilities - “take it or leave it” type of benefits (coffee machines, socials, gym) mostly just meh on impact - personal office space - lax dress code

Cons

- promotion is not based on performance. I was outperforming my peers and promotions were a time based thing NOT performance. Was doing significantly more than when I first started for a period of time without increase in pay. When I brought this up I was told to “be patient” - too many good people who genuinely like the company are terrified they will get fired on a whim mostly because it has happened in the past with mass firings - horrible maternity leave and benefits. I’m still on my parents but was intrigued to see if it was something I could look into to start getting on my own… well let’s say I’m still on my parents. Crazy expensive! Maternity leave is very poor for a company with “lactation rooms” - you’ll get better benefits if you quit and work at Starbucks for a little - managers aren’t allowed to tell you if you’re on track for a promotion or not - hard to use skills for a different job

Pros

Colleagues in the London office are fab - a great group of likeminded young professionals. Nice building and location.

Cons

A truly terrible experience post-PhD/postdoc. The company entice in young, ambitious and intelligent academics with their 'associate clinical trial manager' role only to have them spend 1-2 years writing up meeting notes, preparing meeting agendas and booking meetings into peoples calendars. Managements tactics to keep you in role and stop you asking when you may be ready for promotion are to constantly belittle you and put you down, and tell you 'you aren't quite ready yet because you didn't submit those meeting minutes on time once 6 months ago'. Time to promotion is up to 2 years no matter how good you are and there is no trial manager training whatsoever, only a 10 week bullying course where senior directors shout at you in a room full of people because you made a typo in your completing fictional risk plan. Numerous complaints were made by different people about one senior director in particular, which were all dismissed and/or ignored and they continue to work there managing new starters. The overall atmosphere in the company is unbelievably negative, which is passed on from the top down. I started out at Medpace ambitious and motivated, like many do, and left lacking confidence and questioning my own abilities. Whilst you are there you are repeatedly told that 'this is what cooperate life is like, we're better than most', and you are gaslit into almost believing it. But now being in a company that respects me, guides me and celebrates my achievements with constructive feedback, it saddens me that I myself believed this, and many still working there do too. If you're thinking of applying, please don't think 'I'll be different, I'm a hard worker' - everyone on this page with these same stories was as well, until we learnt the hard way and took the job! You'd be much better off in an entry level role in pharma where the benefits and career opportunities are far better.
