Pros

Simple work, if a bit repetitive, but time still passes fairly quickly. Guaranteed checks (one of the primary perks of working for a major company), paid breaks, 10% discount card for the duration of employment. Quite flexible scheduling; I managed 30+ hours/wk while taking two college courses.

Cons

While beating the concept of "we love our employees" into your head, you should expect to have your needs and desires casually disregarded. In addition, you will be treated somewhat like cattle as the inevitable sentiment of your replaceability becomes obviated over time (I worked for three months before quitting, if that provides any sort of frame of reference). Starts at minimum wage, pay increases are only 15 cents/hr every 750 hours worked. In other words: pathetic and borderline insulting. Especially when the Costco next door pays $12/hr TO START - whether you're pushing carts or mopping floors. Management is generally elitist, unkind, and "holier-than-thou" in attitude, but this may have been store-specific for me. Meijer's "values" (family, freshness, customers, competition, safety/health) could not be less evident. The only one that comes close to being readily applicable is "customers," because Meijer wouldn't dream of treating their source of income poorly. All part-time workers now work a maximum of 24 hours/wk so Meijer doesn't have to provide health insurance. This was the implementation that caused me to quit.
