Flexible scheduling for students

Pros

Fairly flexible scheduling for students. Fairly positive working atmosphere in most departments although this is not uniform. Overall it is decent and fairly low stress job for non management employees. Customer service focused and most store patrons are happy to be shopping at Meijer stores.

Cons

Pay scale is quite low even for the type of work when compared to similar companies although benefits are decent if needed (many students don't). Union seems more of a hindrance to both the company operations and to employees themselves in many ways. There is a high employee turnover, although a solid job for students I seems like it would be a tough place to make a career out of.

Pros

-Nice coworkers. -Employment experience. -Good amount of hours.

Cons

-I received only 2 or 3 hours of training and then I was put on my own. For about 2-4 weeks I had many issues which required me to get help from my shift leader and coworkers constantly. I had to hear them sigh for every problem I was never trained on. The only thing I was taught to do was bagging and scanning correctly. I was never taught the procedures of the job, what I can do on break and meal time, etc. -There was no orientation. I had to learn everything that I would've learned from orientation from videos, the internet, and asking coworkers. -The customers are rude and ridiculous. -Seniority rules the store. One of the reasons I quit was because I missed seeing the sunlight the way I saw it after school. I never had time to do anything with my family. -My breaks are not on time and I cannot turn my light off in my lane unless someone tells me to. I've had a shift lead laugh in my face when I asked when my break was. This should not happen. If my breaks are every 2 hours, do not make me wait 3 hours. -No baggers. Coworkers bag for you if you're their friend if it's not busy. No backup when lines form. -No chance to move up. You're a lowly cashier. That's all. -Unions take money out of my paycheck each week.

Pros

Some good Team Members and good prices

Cons

Total joke of a company. No one knows what is going on from top to bottom. Can't keep help, don't train people properly, huge turnaround even in management and regional office personell, that should tell you right there things are not right,if in this economy people continue to leave the company. Stay away...trust me!
