Pros

GREAT training program (one of the best)- similar to a "Sales Boot Camp" - no work outside of work (when the day ends, you are free after work and on weekends) - great Entry Level place to work and learn about sales, then move on cause you'll never have a career here (this is only a JOB).

Cons

Long hours, NO raises, bonuses, or commission, extreme micro-managing, big brother is ALWAYS watching, NO upward mobility within the company and ZERO career advancement, way too much office politics, constant employee bullying from management and co-workers, employees attacking other employees (watch your back and front) - people will attack you with a smile - No professional growth (no opportunities for learning new skills) - Everyone becomes extremely complacent after 2 years.

Pros

Wonderful co-workers from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Cons

Melissa & Doug has been purchased by an investment group who has gutted its work force of key sales and support veterans upon whose shoulders the company was built over the past 30 years. Founder Doug Bernstein has been replaced as CEO. The restructuring is unfortunate but certainly their perogative however only two weeks severance pay was provided. Most of those let go had over 8 years of employment. Many over 15 years. At the same time millions are being invested in E-commerce marketing.

Pros

I recently left M&D for a role with a much shorter commute and it broke my heart to leave. So many of the negative reviews here are in the past! Is it perfect, no, but they have been making steady progress towards a much more respectful and empowered environment. We just moved to a shorter day (49 hour week is GONE) and they are bringing in Summer Friday’s, without making people work the hours earlier in the week. M&D has GREAT people, and is still small enough to get to know each other, you aren’t just an employee, you are a part of a work family. This is also a company that has grown every year for 30 years, and there aren’t many of those around. When you combine that with a REAL mission / purpose based reason for being that is encouraging kids and parents to actively play more and sit in front of a screen less, and M&D is a place you can be proud to call your professional home.

Cons

Every place has trade off’s, less expensive health benefits and 401k match would be really appreciated and should be next on the list of big difference makers, but total compensation makes up for some of that. The founders need to start investing in better technology and a more modern office environment. I laugh when I read the comments below about a 6 person HR team, there has never been a real HR team but they are finally building one and from personal experience (because I resigned directly to the head of HR), I was met with genuine respect and kindness.
