Pros

Working with patients of all ages and backgrounds, taking cadavers to the morgue, helping patients checking out to go home, especially newborn babies.

Cons

Having a 22-minute turnaround time, often being unable to do this due to pushing patient beds through crowded halls, elevators, needed to be signed off by the nurse on duty.

Pros

Working with current surgical/PCU nurses whom allow me to observe and learn as I go thru nursing school. Our manager is very caring and truly shows concern and consideration for us as people, not just employees. Opportunities to contribute and grow outside the scope of the PCT position (TCAB, outside committees and hospital events) Compensation is fair although just a little bit lower than other hospitals for the work load required of a PCT. REALLY great benefits and Senior management shows care above and beyond.....purchasing scrubs for employees, giving gift cards for lunch on birthdays, thoughtful Christmas gift, making rounds with candy by the CEO (very fun surprise) opportunities to recognize other employees for what they do...... LOVE the attitude of gratitude shown by so many people throughout the hospital.

Cons

The patient load can sometimes be up to 12 patients and this does make it difficult to take care of all the needs a surgical patient has so I feel quite inadequate in my role. Some days we have only 7 patents per PCA/PCT and this really allows us to focus on their more specific needs. We have 30 minutes for lunch, which really is too short over a 12-13 hour day. 45 minutes would allow us to eat without inhaling our food and really provide the mental break we need to be the best for our patients. It is amazing what 15 more minutes would do for our mental and physical health during such a long day. Having to stay silent when I see a small portion of coworkers abusing privileges, being dishonest on the job and cutting corners. I used to say something but these employees are allowed to continue the dishonest and ethically wrong behaviors so I no longer say anything. I simply do my work and try my hardest to take care of our very ill patients and stay positive. Hopefully, these dishonest employees will leave or transfer out so our patients can receive the care they deserve from employees that have a strong work ethic and also have personal integrity.

Pros

Great team environment. Above average pay. Flexible scheduling.

Cons

Horrible benefit options. Always have staffing issues/shortages. Different departments do not work under same rules/guidelines, which can make floating difficult. Department orientation was unorganized and more stressful than it should be.
