Horrible to Nursing staff

Pros

Benefits well structured finacislly

Cons

There has been a huge shift in how they balue/ treat staff. Pple who have worked their earnestly with patient satisfaction and compliance are suddenly asked to get their things, removed from the premesis and sign final warnings for any mere infraction that administration thinks of. Its a dangerous place to work. You are worked to death and think you secure and if you have leafership skills or nusing management thinks your going for a terminal degree they will target you and push you out. Pple lives are destroyed by the upper eshelon of nursing and they are getting away with it. Magnet denied them several times and then gave it to them but said candidly at another hospital MSK has major issues. If they are not carefull a class action suite will be filed on behalf of the several nursing employees that were forced out under less than ethical eith countless HR violations. I thought it would be a dream to work here. I was taken in. It's a cult where they breed fear and are looking at bottom lines and pple who are vested were the first to be targeted. Bet attorney general would be interested in that!

Pros

Good research being performed, a lot of access to state-of-the-art equipment which is not available at institutions with less money. Looks good on your resume. People are always impressed you worked there.

Cons

Salary - $82,000 a year. Enough to live in NYC, but you cant enjoy living in NYC. Most of your salary goes to mandatory expenses like rent, utilities, and public transit. Postdocs have access to subsidized housing, but it's still hard to make ends meet. This causes stress and makes you come to work tired or with a bad attitude because you cant enjoy yourself outside of work. Work-life Balance - non-existent. As a researcher, I was expected to work and answer emails while on vacation. This expectation was not expressed to me during the interview process at all. All while giving 110% and working more than 7.5 hours a day and weekends. I would expect that the 2 weeks a year I have to myself I truly had to myself. Management/Senior Management - they are researchers who were promoted and do not have good empathy or people skills. It's all about the bottom line to them. I was treated like a commodity that had to produce continuously, even when exceeding the productivity of the previous year.

Pros

Mostly decent people and great place for learning.

Cons

Growth opportunity non-existing. Bad idea to transfer into another department within MSK, because your manager owns you. Your manager is notified as soon as you apply internally for a job within MSK. At that point you're no longer reliable resource to your manager and you're not assigned any project. Also your manager has to approve your release to another department regardless of your recent your performance review.
