Parts of the job were great but....

Pros

The pay was good. Most of my money was made by working overtime or in end of year bonuses. I traveled to stores all over the country and flew there on private company jets. The company had an unlimited budget for training and development. Strong culture. This is a great company to start out at. If you want to move up quickly in an organization, this is the place.

Cons

If you are able to completely commit your life to the company, you'll do great. Don't expect a life outside of work. 55-65 hours/week. No PTO. No sick time. 5 vacation days/year for the first 4 years. I had to use vacation days when I had pneumonia. Burnout came quickly. The company has so much potential but with an outdated culture of "all work and no play," I just couldn't make it work for me.

Decent pay but horrible management

Pros

The pay on weekend days is an extra 2.50 an hour which is great and if you are full-time benefits are not too horrible.

Cons

Management is made up of a bunch of high school drop outs or people with bachelor's degrees who are too lazy to look for worthwhile jobs. They are usually always irritated or annoyed because corporate is always switching policies on them, auditing them, and other general nonsense. Work-to-life balance is non-existent.

Pros

They will give you a ton of responsibility and ownership of you work. It's a great place to get experience if you don't have any, its a sink or swim mentality though with little training so make sure your up to it!

Cons

You basically will have no life except for Menards, you'll work a lot of Saturdays and do a ton of traveling to the stores. There is mandatory overtime and that is really the only reason you are making decent money. The hourly salary is very low. Also the higher you go the more mandatory hours you have to work.. Also you get very little vacation time.
